Drawing on Brockley’s rich heritage in the arts and it’s proximity to Goldsmiths College a local resident made a pitch for Brockley amongst the many London neighbourhoods nominated.
A shortlist was drawn up, and put to a public vote, and with a connected community and an established local forum, it didn’t take long to rally the support needed. Add to that a team of dedicated volunteers, the backing of Lewisham Council among others, plus support from Brockley Max, and the Brockley Street Art Festival was born.
The first Brockley Street Art Festival ran from 29th May to 6th June 2015, with a host of artists creating a series of artworks on the walls and shutters of businesses and homes throughout the area, many of which are still there today.
The festival works hard to:
– Improve the area’s identity and unify surrounding neighbourhoods
– Shine a light on Brockley’s vibrant arts community and independent businesses
– Improve underwhelming parts of our urban fabric by supporting the creation of art that is truly accessible for everyone
By working with local, national and international artists, the festival aims to inspire the community by spreading colour throughout our neighbourhood.
We hope you enjoy the festival and we look forward to you getting involved.
